3 Big Advantages of Using Math Riddles With Answers

I love a good punny riddle, especially math riddles with answers. They are like dad jokes, definitely silly but always bring a smile to my face. Here are a few of my favorite riddles from Reader’s Digest.

What two things can you never eat for breakfast?

Answer: Lunch and dinner

What do Alexander the Great and Winnie the Pooh have in common?

Answer: Their middle names.

Two in a corner, one in a room, zero in a house, but one in a shelter. What am I?

Answer: The letter “R.”

What runs, but never walks. Murmurs, but never talks. Has a bed, but never sleeps. And has a mouth, but never eats?

Answer: A river

If your uncle’s sister is not your aunt, what relation is she to you?

Answer: Your mother

What are the advantages of using math riddles? 

There are lots of advantages to using riddles, here are just a few!

First, your kids can practice their logical reasoning skills. Logical reasoning is the ability to use logic to deduce a logical conclusion based on a set of given facts. Riddles make us use our brains in new or different ways thus stimulating our brain and helping to keep it sharp.

Second, these math riddles can help students improve their math skills. In order to get the math riddle correct, they have to get the math problems correct. If your student doesn’t know how to calculate the least common multiple, for example, they’ll likely be able to by the end of the riddle. 

Third, when you use math riddles with answers already on them, kids can check their work as they go. If the riddle is doesn’t make sense at the end, then students know that they have made a mistake somewhere. It’s a great way for them to be able to check their accuracy and skill. 

An added benefit to you is that our math riddles come with a teacher answer key so it’s easy for you to correct and grade.

Where can I find math riddles with answers to use in my classroom?

What is included in 36 Weeks of Math Riddles?

They include one math riddle for your students to solve each week. Each worksheet has grade-level math problems and as your students solve them, they solve the answer to a funny riddle.

Your students will LOVE solving the riddles as they practice their math problem-solving skills at the same time.

Is there an order to 36 Weeks of Math Riddles?

Our 36 Weeks of Math Riddles are ordered #1-36. They can be given in that order to keep it simple and track which ones you have already done.

Or you can assign the math riddles by CCSS. Each math riddle has the corresponding CCSS on them to make it easy for you! Whether that be the CCSS you are currently teaching or one that your students just need some extra practice with, you can give students math riddles to give them the practice that they need.

How should you use math riddles with answers?

There are lots of ways that you can use math riddles in your classroom. First, If you choose to use math riddles based on CCSS, they are perfect as extra practice for students who need more examples or as a class review over a topic at the end of the week. 

You can assign them as independent work for your students after you have taught your math lesson to the whole class. Then you can pull small groups to work with you on other things.
