Kelsey: [00:00:00] You’re listening to episode 114 of wife, teacher, mommy, the podcast self-care laughter and community with Kayla jewels, from kids sneezing all over to dancing, tick talks, we talk all things, self care, mental health, and the importance of community on today’s interview.

Someone’s gotta take care of you. It’s the time or resources you lack. Teacher Mommy, they have got your back. It’s the Gala Teacher Mom. They’ll bridge the Gala Teacher Mommy. Between your life and class, you and your family. They’ll bridge the Gala Teacher Mom. They’ll bridge the Gala Teacher Mom.[00:01:00]

Welcome to Wife Teacher Mommy, the podcast. I’m Kelsey Sorenson, a former elementary teacher and current homeschool mom. And even though I’ve been a resource creator since 2014, I’ve realized that printables alone aren’t all you need in order to thrive as a teacher or homeschool parent. That’s why I also created this show and got started.

Certified as a life coach to help you finally kick burnout to the curb and feel confident with whatever challenges come your way with the right mindset strategies and new teaching inspiration. You’re going to be well on your way to your best teacher life. Now let’s go.

Kelsey: I am really excited to have the amazing Kayla jewels on the podcast today. She is the educator behind miseducation on Instagram and Tik TOK that is spelled. M S S U K K a Y for Kayla Shen. And she is awesome. She has had so many. Tick tock. And [00:02:00] reels go viral. And I just love what I’ve seen from her, the amazing content I’m just like laughing as I’m scrolling through her feed.

So really highly recommend checking her out and following her. And just a little bit about her. She knew that she always wanted to be a teacher. She did education internships in high school and college and fell in love with teaching. And she is currently in her fourth year of teaching fifth grade in Texas.

So we are so excited to have her on the podcast and. The reason that she is a guest on the podcast today is because she is the comedy keynote at our winter educate and rejuvenate event. And we just opened the doors to winter, educate and rejuvenate so you can join us. And I’m really excited about this event.

I really feel like we are definitely, even one-upping last year’s winter event and last year’s winter event was really good. I want to talk a little bit about how the winter event is a bit different than our summer educate and rejuvenate event. [00:03:00] So a lot of you have attended. Possibly or maybe you’re new, maybe you haven’t.

So our big summer event that we do, we have like. Big keynote speakers. We have like a huge panel of tons and tons of speakers, at the. Last summer event, 2023, we had over 70 speakers. And that was because we had a teacher track and we had a parent track for the homeschoolers. I have started following us as well. Now that I become a homeschool mom and. We just bring in all the experts who could learn about practically, anything you want.

You can learn about the science of reading. You could learn about stem. You could learn about differentiation about small groups. Like there’s a session for everything in the summer event. Now. The difference between our winter event and the summer one is during winter break, we know you want a break, right?

You don’t want to dive in and learn. About all things, all these different subjects. We leave that for the summer when you have a longer break, but, For our winter event, the whole goal of it is [00:04:00] to help you refresh rejuvenate and feel ready to take on the next year. Ready to take on your new year’s resolutions.

Ready to start the year off on the right track. And that is the whole goal of our winter educate and rejuvenate event. And it is one full day. We are all together instead of having different sessions. It’s one full day altogether. We’ll kick off the day with a yoga and meditation with Lizzie lincston who, if you recognize her name and you were at the summer event is because she did our yoga meditation at. The summer event as well.

And everybody just loved her. The comments pouring in were just like, this was exactly what I didn’t know. I needed. I mean, we just had to have her back. She is so incredible. So you will love this yoga meditation and then Kayla Juul. So we have on the podcast today will be our incredible. Comedy keynote, you’ll be laughing and it’ll just be refreshing.

And we’ll, you know, have the comradery of like all the funny things that happen when we’re teaching children. Then I will teach a special class, which I’m still working on the [00:05:00] content for. I will share a little bit more about that. In the coming weeks, but it is going to just let me tell you, I’m really excited about it. Then we’ll break for lunch.

And then we are going to have a two hour coaching panel with me and fellow wife, teacher, mommy club coaches. That would be Chrissy, Nicole. So you’ve heard on the podcast, Bonnie WISKA, who we’ve had on the podcast

and then Cammie and France, Sr.

Joining us. They were both speakers at our summer event and they will start doing some coaching in wife, teacher, mommy clubs, starting in January as well. So you’re going to just get even more, even more value. We’re not taking away anything, Bonnie and Christie and I are still coaching. I’m still coaching as much as they possibly can. Um, but you’ll also be hearing from these other incredible coaches too.

So you just get such a wide variety of perspectives and. The other difference between this event. And the summer event is we sell tickets to the summer event. Like you can buy a ticket and you can just attend the event. Now this one, we don’t sell tickets. We keep it really simple. For the winter season, we don’t want to have like, you know, during the summer there’s all the ticket levels.

Like our [00:06:00] members get in free. Then we have like a general mission ticket. Then we have a platinum pass ticket that gives extended access. Like, you know, it’s like whatever you’re able to pay for. We’re able to give you that based on it. Um, but for this event, it is members only. It is a day where our wife, teacher, mommy club members get to come together and do this.

So if you are a member, then you’re already in, you don’t have to do anything else. In fact, you should be receiving it really cute Christmas card from us that explains everything, but you can also find it in your account, but if you are not a member yet, And as maybe something you’ve been thinking about, or you’ve just been listening to the podcast and you’re like, yeah, I’ve been getting some good stuff from this, but you haven’t joined the club yet. Now is the time to try it out.

And that is because we are giving new members an opportunity to have a full month of the club for just $9 so they can join us at winter educate and rejuvenate. So it was kind of like purchasing your ticket for $9. You’re getting your first month of the club though, when you join us and. Um, it’s really easy to cancel if you decide it’s [00:07:00] not for you later, so you can cancel it, like come to the event and you’ll be able to really get a taste and see if the club is for you or not.

Like it is the perfect way to trout the club because it’s only $9. You get a full month. It’s not a trial where like your downloads are limited or. Um, you get just like, you know, 14 days or whatever it is, a full month you are getting and you will be able to join us at the event. December is the only time that we offer a full month of the club for just $9.

We know you’re that you’re doing a lot of Christmas shopping and everything. So we want you to be able to try it out. We want you to be able to refresh. I mean this time of year is really when you need some coaching, honestly, too. And even if you can’t attend live with the private podcast, so like, while you’re waiting for the event, if you join us now, you’re going to be able to start listening to the members only private podcast and hear coaching in your earbuds when you’re all stressed out about the holiday shopping or your Christmas program, or like all the different things that might be going on.

So I highly recommend joining us and not waiting. Join us now. So you can get that coaching support. Throughout the season [00:08:00] that will really help you. And you’ll get to join us at this really fun event. And also for a limited time, if you join us now, we have a huge bonus too. You’ll get lifetime access and this won’t be there.

Like if you join us on December 27th, this bonus will be gone. You will get lifetime access to our 36 weeks of social emotional learning for pre-K through sixth grades. When you start your $9 a month now. Now this resource alone is worth over $300 because it is. The biggest resource we have for any given grade level.

And you are getting all of them. Has daily activities for social, emotional learning. So if you feel like your kids are like getting a little crazy right now, I actually saw a comment in a Facebook group. Like these kids are feral. Like, what do I do? Well, social emotional learning can help with that. And this resource you’ll be able to dive into it immediately and utilize it.

So when you do that $9 trial, not only are you getting into the event, you’re getting a lifetime access to this resource. It says if you [00:09:00] purchased it. So even if you decide the club isn’t for you, you’ll have this resource to use forever and evermore now I love it. I just love the daily activities.

Like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Like it’s a full curriculum, basically for social emotional learning. And this is so important for kids. And it’s kind of like, you know, we do the coaching for you as the grownup in the club and what we mostly talk about on this podcast, but we have this amazing resource that’s going to help you teach. Similar skills to your kids.

And if you like it, there’s more where that’s coming from in 20, 24, as I’m writing my book, which is mostly geared again, like, well, I like talking about most is I feel like we always talk about the kids. Like how do we help the kids, but I want to talk about how to help you, but in the book and every chapter, I’m also having a, you apply it section where you get to apply what I taught in the chapter, and then you teach it section. Where it kind of explains how you get to teach it.

And we’re going to create resources based on that content in the book I’m writing too. So. Lots of amazing things coming. If you decide to stick [00:10:00] around in the club after your first month, you’ll have that to look forward to as well. This is the perfect month, December, 2023. To see if the club is right for you and join us at the event and the worst case scenario, you get to join the event and get the 36 weeks of social emotional learning lifetime access $319 value for just $9. Click on the link in the show notes, or just type in, educate in rejuvenate.com to your browser to learn more.

And if you’re listening later after December, 2023, Educate and rejuvenate.com will take you to whatever event we are doing soon. So. Just be sure to check that out. You can also just go to wife, teacher, mama.com and click on events. We always have something really fun and exciting coming up. Okay.

Without further ado, let’s get to our interview with Kayla.

Kelsey: We

are here with the amazing Kayla Jules with Miss Education.

Kayla: Hi. Thank you for having me. Oh my gosh. I’m so excited.

Kelsey: Thank you so much for coming on, wife, teacher, mommy, the [00:11:00] podcast. We’re so excited to have you both here on the podcast today, and also as a keynote at our Winter Educate and Rejuvenate event that is happening on December 28th. We’re so excited that you decided to join us.

Kayla: Yeah, thanks for asking. I, I love everything that you guys do, and so I’m excited to do that in December two.

All right, so can you tell us before we dive into the episode and talking about like self-care and mental health and a little bit more about what was coming up at the event too, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, your teaching background, and then what you do at Miseducation on like Instagram and TikTok as well?

Kayla: Yeah. Um, so I am in my fourth year of teaching currently in Texas. Um, and growing up I always knew that I was going to be a teacher. It was either that or a lawyer. And right now I’m actually, um, getting my master’s in education policy, so I get a little bit of both,

Kelsey: Oh, I love that. ,[00:12:00]

Kayla: right. Um, and yeah, miseducation is just, um, some account that I made on Instagram actually, because one of my teammates has a teacher, Graham too, and she was making a lot of content and she was like. You’ve been on my channel a lot, you might as well make your own. And I was like, you’re so right. And she was like, do it. People are gonna wanna hear your story. And so through her guidance and kind of inspiration, I started Miseducation and um, I’m on Instagram, I’m on TikTok, and yeah, I just like making funny, relatable teacher content.

Kelsey: I love it and I’ve loved watching some of your reels that you’ve done, and I de, I’ve definitely watched on Instagram a lot more than TikTok, I think. But you do both, right?

Kayla: Yes. And

most of the stuff that I post on Instagram is very similar to what I post on TikTok too,

Kelsey: Awesome. So how do you get your ideas for some of the reels and the content that you do create on that account? I.

Kayla: Yeah. Um, a lot of my ideas honestly come from TikTok. Um, there’s [00:13:00] always popular sounds that are generating like every single day. And so once I find a sound that I think, um, I can tie back or relate to teaching, I, I use that and I kind of come up with a caption based off of experience that I get from my students ’cause they are hilarious. And, uh, yeah, I just post them in, in, in the comments. I see how people relate and, yeah.

Kelsey: That’s awesome Now. Um, do your students know, this is going off script a little bit, but do they know about your account and like what you do on there?

Kayla: Yes. Oh my gosh. They’re like, I saw you on TikTok. I saw you on on Instagram. I’m like, you’re not even supposed to be on TikTok they find, they find me and they will always comment on my stuff, and honestly, they’re like the biggest supporters, so

I love them.

Kelsey: that’s so sweet. I love that. I, I, feel like our kids, they just like that relationship that we build with them during the school year, like, and how you can’t, you just get so close that you can like, you know, tease each other. You can be like, oh, I saw you on TikTok, or [00:14:00] whatever,

you know?

Kayla: exactly.

Kelsey: Show them that you, and then they’ll see like, oh yeah, my teacher, she’s super cool.

You know,

Kayla: They’re like, I liked every single one of your videos. I’m like, thank you,

Kelsey: Oh, that’s so sweet. So what are some of your favorite ones that you’ve created?

Kayla: Um, honestly, my favorite ones are, um, there’s this one that I just posted actually. It’s, um, about how, uh, it’s like that time of year and it’s just a bunch of coughing and all of your students are coughing. And it’s really funny because I actually, I got that inspiration from a student who will come and sit at my small group table and just cough all over the

Kelsey: Oh my goodness. .

Kayla: Girl

Kelsey: Oh

my goodness.

Kayla: your mouth. And so I, I heard that sound on TikTok and I was like, this is exactly something that’s happening in my classroom. And so I just put that caption on it and a lot of people can relay it ’cause it is that time of the year.

Kelsey: It’s very relatable.

And actually I was on, uh, my team member, so I have a team member named [00:15:00] Kelsey too. We’ve got two Kelsey’s on our, we’ve got a very small team of like six people and two of us are named Kelsey.

But, um. But we were chatting today and we have like our sub binder. I don’t know if you’ve seen the sub binder that we have on TPT and stuff, and we had a deal we were doing, or that we’re planning that’s coming out, um, for that.

Of it’s the most wonderful time of the year. We put, it’s the most germa full time of the year because like

it’s, and we, we definitely like, ugh. You’re like, please stop, like hacking all over me , you know.

Kayla: And it, it’s funny because my, my students do see my TikTok and so, um, they were talking about that TikTok, and I was like, yeah, actually I made that TikTok because of her. And she was like, that TikTok was about me. I’m like, yeah, you need to cover your mouth when you cough,

Kelsey: Oh, that’s so funny.

That’s so

Kayla: yeah, we always joke back and forth and, and it’s always hilarious to hear their input on the stuff that I post.

Kelsey: Are there any others, any other ones you wanna share with us? [00:16:00] Kind of like the type of stuff that you share on your account.

Kayla: Yeah. Um, I do a lot of dancing tos with my coworkers. Um, and honestly, it’s a, to be honest, like a form of self-care. Um, the fact that we’re able to stay after school and kind of just hang out and make all these dancing toss and we’re laughing and It’s always just so fun to, to do that, to do that with my coworkers. Um, so any of the dancing ones that are on there are probably my favorite too.

Kelsey: I love that and I’m, I’m sure because like to do stay after school and do these dancing talks with your coworkers, you kind of are building those relationships at school. And from what I’ve been hearing from our community is some people, like, they, they, everybody really craves community in teaching, whether it’s like in their building, which it seems like you have or some, some, maybe for whatever reason, they don’t click with those in their building and they might find it like with us in wife, teacher, mommy club or in a teacher Facebook group or whatever it is.

But it sounds like you’ve been able to find that community . With your teachers at your school?

Kayla: Yeah, I’m definitely very [00:17:00] blessed, um, especially because I know it’s hard to sometimes find a community in teaching. Um, and everybody has their own struggles, but I have been very blessed with an amazing team and amazing admin and, um, I think that’s a big part of, um, just having a good time and being able to relate and connect with people.

Kelsey: Yeah. So are the teachers you do it with, are they like your grade level team?

Kayla: Yes,

my grade level team. And so there’s, there’s four of us that actually are on social media that

love to make different videos and stuff. And so we honestly have each other’s, uh, support and push each other and, and kind of grow in that sense. And so whenever we do these videos, yes we’re doing it to post, but it’s also just us connecting.

Kelsey: That’s so much fun. So, and we kind of got into this, but how is running this account, like you mentioned, it’s kind of a form of self-care for you. Is there anything else that you want to add on that?

Kayla: Yeah, I mean, you know, teaching is hard and so sometimes whenever I, I take things and I post about it, or, um, [00:18:00] .I, I just noticed, oh, my student said this, and I make a post about it. Just to see the people in the comments be like, oh my gosh, yes, this happened to me too. My student said this and my student did that.

And so, um, just having community in the comments is, has been wonderful. Also, like following other teachers and hearing their story and hearing, um, an issue that they had and how they resolved it. And knowing like, you’re not the only one. I’m only in my fourth year. Teaching and so I’m very far from where other teachers are at, but being able to have that community on social media and, and learn from each other is, has been so great.

Kelsey: And the thing is that I’ve heard like, like you might say like, oh, I’m only in my fourth year or whatever, but actually, I mean, you’re in your fourth year, like think of how far you’ve come since you were a first year teacher, you know? And they even say that sometimes it’s best for somebody to learn from someone who’s just a little bit ahead of where they are, you know?

So they can say like, oh, in a few years, like. Maybe I’ll have this awesome like community and maybe I’ll even have someone to do dancing tos with or not maybe just to go and

grab a coffee with or whatever.

[00:19:00] So I, I love that you’re kind of like an inspiration to other teachers out there too.

Kayla: Oh, thanks. I think honestly we just kind of lift each other up and even the people that aren’t like making a, a lot of content just in the comments being, or they’ll message me and be like, Hey, like, thank you so much for just, you know, sharing what you guys do. It’s so inspiring. I’m like, wow, thank you.

Like I. I really appreciate those type of, you know, comments because that’s the whole purpose of us, like being on social media is to reach out and, and to help anybody that needs help. Because I think about myself as a first year teacher and like, like you said, even though I’m in my fourth year, this is my first year where I’m actually feeling really good about teaching

and so. I know that there’s a lot of teachers out there that are in their first, second, third year that are still like, ah, maybe I’m struggling a little bit, but hopefully know that it, it’s gonna get easier. It’s gonna get easier

Kelsey: Yes, for sure. And it is just kind of helping them get that community, like you said as well, because they’re in the comments. They’re like, oh, like able to chat with you and chat with the other teachers in the comments

and.

Kayla: Mm-Hmm.

Kelsey: [00:20:00] Just kind of, that’s the thing I’ve loved about like teacher Instagram. Like some people have are like, oh it’s so bad ’cause we compare ourselves or whatever.

Which you can, you know, people can definitely do that and like, you know, compare themselves to like a picture perfect Instagram or whatever. But what I love about reels kind of like, and how things have changed a little bit, I feel like it’s getting a little more real. Don’t you think? It is too? Like

people just sharing like, you know what it’s really like, and mental health is becoming more of a thing that we’re talking about too, which I think is so great.

Kayla: Yes. I think people are just open to be more honest, you know, to everybody. And, and I think hearing everybody’s honesty and transparency is, um, just allowing a more like open Vulnerable space, which I feel like is necessary in order for you to grow. So the fact that everybody is able to do that on social media and like you said, become more real, we’re constantly seeing growth and just supporting each other in that community.

Kelsey: I love how you’re able to kind of cultivate that community. And that’s what we’re trying to do too, is like cultivate. [00:21:00] A community as well. And that’s where us collaborating is amazing ’cause we’re able to like bring our communities together, which is so awesome.

Kayla: Yeah.

Kelsey: So to continue kind of what we were talking about, why do you think mental health is so important for teachers?

And also we have some homeschool moms listening too, but so in general for, um, the mainly women and we surveyed and there were 97% women who are listening, but the men as well. Why do you think mental health is so important?

Kayla: Yeah. Um, mental health is important because especially in the teaching community, um, you know, burnout is such a Key word that everybody has been talking about, teacher burnout and our mental health impacts. So many things. Um, how we like, respond to pressure, how we interact with people, um, the community that we have around us.

And so when we’re not doing those things for our mental health, it’s hard for us to give our all and be everything that we need for our students or for our kids. And so, um, in order [00:22:00] to support them. We have to kind of prioritize ourself first, right? And it’s not being a selfish thing because definitely our students are important, but if we can’t do what we need for ourselves, we can’t do what we need for our students. And so, um, I think, you know, that’s the main reason why mental health is important, but not just for, you know, your job or. For your students, but just for yourself. You know, wanting to be in the place that you wanna be mentally is just as important as you wanting to be there for your students or for your job. You need to be there for yourself too. So.

Kelsey: I 100% agree and like . I mean, I feel like we can preach that all day long. People need to hear it. They need that reminder and they need to hear it from different voices and everything because like, I feel like we do so much for our students, or like our spouses or partners if we have them or our own children, and we have an easier time helping those other people.

But when we don’t help ourselves, we’re . Giving from an empty cup, you know,

and it’s just, and [00:23:00] really we deserve it. You know, we deserve to that self-care to be taken care of. We’re just as important as anybody else.

So, yeah.

Kayla: Yeah.

Kelsey: So what do you do for, what else do you do to help with your self-care and your mental health, like outside of your, um, miseducation

account?

Kayla: I love reading. Reading is definitely, um, one of my favorite things. Um, watching movies, any, anything where I can, I. Put myself, you know, in the shoes of the main character. So kind of take a little break from reality and kind of soak in that. Um, and then I know that there’s a lot of teachers that read, so I wanna start incorporating that more into my social media too. Um, ’cause that’s a whole nother community in itself.

Kelsey: Oh, 100%. Like book talk ,

you know?

Kayla: exactly.

Kelsey: Yeah. What do you like to read? Tell us a little bit more about like what you like. I mean, because I love reading too, and I know we have a bunch of readers on here.

Kayla: Yeah, I love, um, murder mysteries are

probably my favorite.

Kelsey: yes,

Kayla: Um, [00:24:00] I read a couple Murder Mysteries or Dystopian Society type of books, um, fantasy books, stuff like that. Um, I just read The Maid, which was a murder mystery if anybody ever heard

Kelsey: Is the maid.

is it like, does it have a red cover?

Kayla: Yes. Mm-Hmm.

Kelsey: I read that one a while back. That one was

so good. And just so cute. It was like a little cozy mystery, you know.

Kayla: It was exactly. It wasn’t, it wasn’t too much. It was very like an easy, easy read. And so, um,

Kelsey: Yeah.

Yeah. So for anybody who’s listening who like, you’re like, oh, I like mysteries, but I don’t like when there’s gore or whatever. That’s definitely a good one.

Kayla: That is a good one. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I’m, I’m trying to read as many books as I can during Thanksgiving break. I feel like this is, you know, the only time to really

dive

Kelsey: on your list? What books are up next?

Kayla: Um, there’s, uh, we’re the craw dad sing ’cause I know that turned into a movie

and so I see. I wanted to read the book first before I watched the movie. So that’s on my, [00:25:00] on my Thanksgiving list. Um,

and then

Kelsey: still haven’t watched the movie. I’ve only, I actually listened to the book. It was really good on audio. I’m sure it’s great to read too.

Kayla: I need to start reading audio. That’s, that’s smart. ’cause then you can also do things while reading.

Kelsey: You can like do it on your drive to and from school, you know?

Kayla: True.

That is true. Um, and then the AAR series, everyone always talks about,

Kelsey: I, yeah, I, have not read that one,

Kayla: yeah, I, that’s, that’s gonna be on the list too, but we’ll see.

Kelsey: you’ll have to let me know how it is.

See, I’m not as huge of a fantasy reader. I’m like murder, mystery, romance and personal development. Those are like my three categories that I read about mainly,

but

Kayla: Yeah.

What’s your favorite personal development book? Because.

Kelsey: Oh gosh, , that is a hard one, but I will say the one I just finished is called Burnout by Emily and Amelia Naski.

I actually even talked about it on the podcast because I loved it so much. On a previous episode, they talk about like the stress cycle and how it [00:26:00] impacts us and like completing the stress cycle and our nervous system and all all those things. It’s really good and it’s really, like it’s research backed, but it’s casual.

You know, I listened to that one on audio too, and they read it, which is really fun. So whenever the author reads it, I love to do the audiobook. And then, and then I do some memoirs too. Like I just started Brittany Brittany’s memoir that’s read by Michelle Williams,

gotta try Audible if you haven’t have you.

Kayla: I, I’ve, I’ve read, um. Uh, Gabrielle Union’s autobiography on Audible and she

read it too.

Um, but that was the only book that I read on Audible, so I

need to, I need to get more to that.

Kelsey: Give it another shot because it makes it way easier to get through more books because like you and I, I mean, you know, I’m busy running this business and homeschooling my kiddos now and you’re teaching and it’s like there’s a lot that goes into it. So I do think audio helps you to get through more.

And I actually have a Kindle. And the cool thing about when you have a Kindle is you can have them sync. So you can like [00:27:00] read some and then listen to some and it’ll like keep track of where you’re at. So you can actually switch back and forth

between reading and listening.

Kayla: Nice. That’s that’s good. Yeah. So then you, you never get your place that’s.

Kelsey: Yeah. Anyways, we got very off topic, but I feel like it’s . Come on. Don’t you all wanna hear what we’re reading, right?

Kayla: Exactly

Kelsey: Oh yeah. You’ll let me know about that series. What is it called? What does it even stand for? I don’t remember. I, everyone always uses the abbreviation.

Kayla: um, a cord of thorns and roses.

I haven’t read a fantasy book in a long time, so I’m kind of excited to see what that’ll

be like.

Kelsey: well keep me posted

and then like, let us all know.

Kayla: Yeah.

Kelsey: have to know if we should check it out. Okay. So, um, you do reading and we went really off on that. Anything else that you wanna share? I, uh, movies, they’re like movies. You like watching movies and TV shows. I, I love that too. I

mean,

Kayla: Yes, I am, um, currently almost done with Scandal. I [00:28:00] don’t know if you watch Scandal,

Kelsey: I’ve heard of it. I haven’t watched it. I

should probably watch that one.

Kayla: that’s a good one. It’s honestly a lot, but seven seasons and

we’re here finally. And so I’m almost done with that, which is great. Um, and then some of the movies that I like watching thriller movies. I’m a big thriller, thriller, murder mystery, that’s kind of

Kelsey: Oh yeah.

Kayla: minds. I like all

those type of movies and shows.

Kelsey: That’s awesome. I’m trying to think. I have some of those I really liked too. Do you like the true crime ones too, or just the

fictional crime ones?

Kayla: Um, there’s a podcast that I used to listen to, um, I haven’t listened to an into, listened to it in a while. It’s called Serial. Um, that’s True

Kelsey: Oh yeah.

Kayla: Really good.

Kelsey: I’ve heard of that one too, but I haven’t listened to it. Oh, all these good recommendations. I’m loving it. . I’m trying to think of another, I need to, I need to try Scandal, because I feel like right now, because of the, like rider’s strike and everything, like all the shows that we watch, [00:29:00] like the New Seasons are being like pushed back and pushed back, you know?

So I’m like, I need to find a new one that has like seven seasons to

start, you know?

Kayla: Well, there you go.

If you’re into politics and crime and just drama, heavy on the drama, scandal is your show.

Kelsey: Okay.

I,

I’ll have to check that one out. It sounds good. . Okay. And finally, we are so excited that you are joining us at our Winter Educate and Rejuvenate event and being our like comedy keynote. And it’s gonna just be like a lighthearted, um, keynote with some laughs thrown in there. Right?

Kayla: Honestly, I’m, I’m just excited to share kind of some of my experience with my students. I feel like my students are hilarious, especially kids. We’ll always be brutally honest with you

and so .Exactly. I’m excited to kind of share some of my, my stories because they, they are hilarious.

Kelsey: Oh, I cannot wait to hear those stories. I mean, even just a little bit that we got to hear here about, you know, them talking about you being on [00:30:00] TikTok and the like, sneezing and coughing or whatever. But we’ll save most of that for the keynote, so you can have those for that. That’ll be so much fun. What are you looking forward to about the event as a whole?

Kayla: Um, honestly, to learn from other educators and professionals. Uh, I feel like we’re always given, you know, self-care, uh, PDs and stuff like that from, from people that Aren’t really in the, in the education system or have, you know, dealt with the education system. And so being able to hear from others who, you know, know what’s going on or are experts in their fields, um, will really kind of just have, help everyone grow and,

you know, give tips to implement self-care in their life because it’s important.

Kelsey: Yes. I’m so excited for, you know, kind of bringing the community together and sharing together, because I really believe that together we can learn so much from each other. Like everybody has something to share and then all of us can learn [00:31:00] from each other too, like, so it’s just,

and even the people who just show up to the event and share tips in the comments, I learned so much from them as well.

Kayla: Yeah, because self-care is definitely transferrable. No matter what you do, you know, you can implement that into any aspecting of your life. And so even if you’re not an educator or

you know, a, a parent or a mom, um, you can still always implement the tips. And I know that there’s going to be many, many wonderful, great things that people can learn. Um, so I’m excited to learn them and to hear.

Kelsey: Yeah, I’m excited. I’m excited to have you there at the event with us. It’s going to be such a great time. What do you have to say to anybody who’s like on the fence, on the fence about joining us at the event?

Kayla: Why not? You know, you get a, you get a lot of resources, you get, um, a lot of tips and tricks and, and it’s only what, $9. And so,

you know, you get, you get to learn

so much and, and just for a day, there’s no harm in that, you know?

Kelsey: Yeah, it’s going to be such a fun time. [00:32:00] Yeah. And it’s just nine bucks to try it out. And if you decide like you know at the event and if you’re like, oh, I don’t want to be in the club ongoing, like it’s no big deal, you can just cancel it. So you can just come try it out, see what it’s all about and hang out with all of us over winter break.

It’s gonna be so fun. We start with yoga, meditation. Then there’s gonna be a little break. So people can like change if they want, and then they’ll come to you and then to me, and then to Brittany Blackwell, and then lunch, and then a coaching panel. And it’s gonna just be a fun, day to help us refresh.

Like the focus isn’t on like, here are all these different things you need to do to teach or whatever. It’s gonna be like, Hey, how can we refresh ourselves? How can we take care of ourselves? And how can we set ourselves up for success with any of the goals that we have in the new year? So that’s kind of our goal with the

event.

Kayla Jules: I, I was just about to say that I’m really excited to learn a lot, especially because, um, you can start building those habits or, you know, taking those tips and tricks now before the new year starts and it can help you [00:33:00] Yeah. With your, your, your goals. And so I’m really excited.

Kelsey: Yes. Well, we’re so excited to have you. Can you tell our

listeners where they can find and connect with you, like before or after the event? Like they’re just listening and they’re like, oh, I need to connect with Kayla right now.

Kayla: I am on Instagram and TikTok, um, at Miseducation. It’s spelled ms.edu, KAY for Kayla, TION. Um, and yeah, you can find me on Instagram on TikTok. I might start a YouTube channel also.

Kelsey: Oh, I would love that. That’d be so fun.

Kayla: So you’ll, you can, uh, find me on there. There might not be any videos there yet, but the, the account is set up. So

Kelsey: Awesome. Well thank you so much Kayla, for your time for coming on the podcast, and we’re so excited to have you at our event in just a few weeks when this episode comes out. So it’s gonna be a great time.

Kayla: thank you for having me and I’m excited for the event. Excited to learn and excited to share. So thank you.
