Our 36 Weeks of Elementary Story Problems and Counting Practice should take no longer than a few minutes each day, so they are easy to fit into your schedule while packing a powerful punch! Get kids thinking deeper about math by learning how to write a story problem… backwards! Or have early childhood students practice counting!
In the backward elementary story problems 1st-6th Grade children are given an answer and write a story problem that has their answer. They will brainstorm who and what the problem is about, write the problem, and draw a picture.
Pre-K and kindergarten children will practice counting by identifying and representing quantities and numbers.

These counting and backward elementary story problems can be used as morning work, exit tickets, homework, no-prep warm-ups, enrichment, and more! This is also a great purchase for parents and homeschoolers who want to improve their children’s counting or creative problem-solving skills from home.
Each backward story problem contains 5 sections that can be completed each day throughout the week. However, you may choose to complete all five sections in one day if you prefer.

Every 36 Weeks of Backwards Elementary Story Problems for 1st-6th Grade worksheet includes the following 5 sections:
Write down as many equations as they can think of that equal the answer given
Brainstorm some topic ideas for their problem including WHO and WHAT
Write the Problem using an equation from the first section of the backwards story problem as well as a WHO and WHAT from the brainstorming section
Write a Short Story that incorporates their story problem
Illustrate their short story

I use them in my self-contained special education at junior high level. We work in pairs as long as there are no duplicate answers. We brainstorm possible equations.
